Fungi Event Calendar

Thurs Sept 15th we will have our regular icebreaker at Joe Schmucks from 7pm on while our experts arrive. There will be mushroom themed meals, free mushroom appies and a campfire and music on the deck.

Friday Sept 16, Saturday Sept 17 and Sunday Sept 18 there will be daily long walks, foraging for mushrooms in the area around Sicamous as well as short identification walks with Paul in Sicamous. Long walks require advance registration and are limited to 25 participants.

Friday long walk meets at 9:30 and departs at 10. You are welcome to come by with your specimens and chat with Paul. By special request, Paul’s short walk departs at 11:45 today and he is gone until 1:45. Mushroom soup will be served by donation during the day, in the evening there will be a mushroom themed pasta dinner hosted by the legion. Paul will do his introductory presentation “A World of Wonder Beneath Your Feet” at 4pm (under 18 admitted free). At 5pm there will be a cash bar and our experts will be hosting a panel to answer any questions you might have regarding edibles or other topics of interest. As well there will be a market in the legion parking lot from 4 to 7pm with live music with In My Orange Kitchen. The legion will be hosting a mushroom themed pasta night and live music with the Finn Ryders.

Saturday long walk meets at 9:30 and departs at 10. Paul and Robert will man the displays and answer any of your mushroom questions throughout the day. At noon Robert will host a medicinal mushroom presentation and Q&A. Mushroom soup will be served by donation. At 1:00 Paul will lead a short walk around town until 3pm. At 3:30 pm Magic Mike Ebenal will be hosting a session on how to grow mushrooms in your garden. He will also be happy to talk about grow bags and tinctures with some for sale. At 5pm we will have a cash bar along with a discussion panel reviewing the specimens collected that day and any other topics of interest from the audience. We will have a special guest cooking demonstration at 6pm, followed by Paul’s popular Magic Mushroom Presentation and Q&A at 7pm. There will be vendors and a a plant exchange / give away hosted by Communities in Bloom throughout the day. Saturday night we will partner with the legion to host a beer gardens for the first time in 3 years. Music will be kicked off at 6pm by Jo Jo Red and followed by The News.

Sunday we get started at 9:30am with Dave Crowfoot doing a cooking demonstration of yummy wild mushroom scrambled eggs for the long walk participants. Others are welcome to stick around and have mushroom scrambled eggs by donation once the walkers are done. 10am There will be a panel discussion on edible mushrooms and other topics of interest. The long walk will depart by 11 and Paul and Robert will be available to answer questions throughout the day. Robert will host a second medicinal mushroom presentation at noon for those that couldn’t make Saturday’s presentation. We will have mushroom soup by donation. 3pm the long walk returns and there will be a panel discussion and a wrap up. There will continue to be vendors and a plant exchange / give away hosted by Communities in Bloom throughout the day.

Long walks are mostly full, but we still have lots of room available for all the rest of the activities at the legion. Registrations need to be confirmed and contact details provided with Deb before making payment. Payment can then be made via interac email $ transfer to fungifestival@gmail.com. For everything except the long walks we will accept drop ins and cash payment or e transfer at check in.
